The Times of Trenton publishes our editorial

Catching the attention of Congress on homelessness

It is important for those who care about homelessness to take a step beyond compassion and direct service, and communicate with those who serve us in Congress.

There is openness among our elected leaders and they want to do what is right for those facing the most serious needs for shelter.

On Tuesday December 2, 2008, The Times of Trenton published our op-ed under the title “Keep homelessness.” They joined the Bergen Record, which published the op-ed on November 26th.To read the article in The Times of Trenton click here.

We encourage our members and readers to post comments on the article on our site and share this post with their colleagues.

The op-ed focused on the crisis of homelessness in New Jersey and the work that the has done to raise the issue before our members of Congress.

The public can help New Jersey’s delegation to continue to act with boldness. This is a time to write or call supportive members of our congressional delegation and thank them for their support. When you know of an initiative in Congress that will help homeless people, urge our congressional representatives and two U.S. senators to stand behind it. When the painful reality of homelessness moves you, let your elected officials know you want things to change.

The New Jersey to End Homelessness finds the remarkable response of New Jersey’s congressional delegation very encouraging. We deeply appreciate being reminded that elected leaders do their best when the public communicates its thoughts to representatives in government.
