People who have lost their homes in the current mortgage foreclosure crisis have become new faces among the homeless in New Jersey. With the national economy in a downward spiral, and unemployment rates rising, the ranks of homeless people are likely to increase, perhaps dramatically.

Assemblywoman Caridad Rodriguez (D-West New York) signed on as a co-sponsor of A3101. She is the thirteenth member of the Assembly to sponsor the legislation. In addition, she also voted in favor of the bill on Monday October 27, 2008, when the New Jersey Assembly approved on a roll call vote of 50-28-1,
The Senate version of the Homeless Trust Fund legislation, S2354, was approved by the Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee by a vote of 4-0 on Monday December 8, 2008. Senator Redd, one of the prime sponsors of S2354 has requested that it be on the agenda for the Senate session in January. The calendar for 2009 has not been established. However, the State of the State speech will be on January 13, 2009. Thus the vote on this bill will occur at a date and time after that date.
