This morning the Star-Ledger printed an article entitled “Advocacy group on homelessness grades delegation: Democrats get high marks, Garrett an F.”

Two members of the delegation questioned their grades.

The Rev. Bruce Davidson of the Trenton-based Lutheran Office of Governmental Ministry said the report is the first on the votes and actions of the delegation, and the two-year-old Advocacy Network plans to continue issuing them.

“This is an effort to begin to set a standard so we can assess our leaders in Washington on what they do, not what they say,” Davidson said at the Statehouse.

Congressman Payne’s spokesperson Kerry McKenney stated he “has always been supportive of legislation to help the homeless.”

Garrett was quoted as saying “it’s important to recognize the problems with past government campaigns against homelessness.”

This will be an eye-opener for some, and with the general election just weeks away, these grades may help voters determine the best candidates on housing issues,” said Richard Brown of the New Jersey Anti-Poverty Network.
